N2 - This paper proposes an efficient resource allocation method for the mobile instant messaging (MIM) service in the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network. For the purpose of providing the MIM service, the subscribers or terminals should be registered on the related system in the mobile wireless network. However, in case they do not use the service frequently, such resources (call session and subscriber database) are allocated to the system of the wireless network and are occupied by them. Those resources could potentially require additional cost increase for building up the wirelss network. In this paper, a method for resource optimisation is proposed where the non-utilised resources are returned and reallocated to the other parts of the network system. The proposed scheme is expected to be an essential part of the converged network planning. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the method in the system related to the IMS.
