Abstract

O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) architecture that provides flexibility based on virtualization and open interfaces has gained interest in the telecommunications industry. Recently, energy efficiency has gained significant attention within the O-RAN system, prompting various research efforts. This paper summarizes the research trends in approaches for improving energy efficiency in O-RAN. The approaches include AI-based resource allocation, RF (Radio Frequency) front-end dynamic control, adaptive management of CPU (Central Processing Unit) cores, and a framework that considers the balance between delay and energy efficiency.
