Energy saving schemes for wireless network base station using mobile relay

Abstract

Many papers proposed base station(BS) sleep mode as a way to save power consumptions. However, mobile relay has not yet been considered as a component of BS sleep mode. In this paper, we combine mobile relay with BS's power-off energy saving scheme to enhance the BS power-off efficiency. With the mobile station(MS) relay, BSs have higher probability to power-off themselves. Then neighbor BSs of the power-off BS would get more burdens, but can increase the time portion of power-off BS in the total network and could save energy consumption.
