Abstract
The application of biofilteration to treat volatile organic carbon (VOC) under variable flow rate and unsteady loading for obtaining consistently high removal efficiencies, were presented. VOCs released during the application of spray coatings in the paint booth can create fire or explosion hazards, also contribute to air pollution. Four trickle-bed air biofilters were employed to control paint booth VOCs as single contaminants - toluene, styrene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). The filter performance was valuated for different stressed operating conditions at different inlet VOC concentration.
