Abstract
Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film was deposited on MgO(001) substrate using pulsed laser deposition. On appropriate film-growing conditions, the thin film was highly oriented along the (001) direction. Electric field dependence of birefringence of the thin film was measured using Sernamont method. The electro-optic coefficient resulted in 1 × 10-15 m2/V2, which means one of the best electro-optic performance in dielectric thin films. It is interesting that Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film is highly electrooptic as well as highly tunable in microwave frequency. Optical applications of Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film such as electro-optic modulators and optical waveguides are expected.
