Abstract
A channel model is essential for the development of any wireless system because all the different layers of a wireless system need to relate to the characteristics of the propagation channel. In an effort to implement millimeter-wave (mm-wave) in a new generation cellular network, the quasi-deterministic (Q-D) channel modeling approach, which consists of both deterministic and random components, has been proposed and adopted in the newest amendment of the standard IEEE 802.1 lay. In this paper, we developed a simulation platform based on Q-D approach to describe the propagation and evaluate the performance of mm-wave system in a number of simple reference cases. This simulation platform provides a useful tool to investigate the channel model and examine the effects of beamforming (BF) techniques, which are considered as the promising solution to combat the high path loss in mm-wave system.
