Abstract

We propose a new display feature in which the viewing area of a virtual image is larger than the real size of the electronic display by the combination of an original electronic image and reflected images. By controlling the angular light distribution of each pixel, reflected images are made to look different from a direct-view image. Conditions are analyzed by which reflected images and a direct-view image are perceived as one image by the user. Both twofold and fourfold enlargements of the image are experimentally observed at the proposed system using liquid crystal display and mirrors standing by its side.
