Abstract

The pulse width modulation (PWM) method significantly affects the performance of inverters such as efficiency, power quality, and reliability. In previous research, the efficiency and power quality are typically considered when Discontinuous PWM methods are applied, whereas study about the reliability of the power devices and DC-link capacitors is insufficient. In this paper, the impact of PWM methods on the reliability of power devices and DC-link capacitors of a single-phase five-level T-type NPC inverter is investigated by considering their power losses and thermal loadings based on simulations and experiments.
