Abstract
The IT industry has played an important role in the Korean economy and constituted a critical factor sustaining the well-being of the Korean people. This situation clearly demands that researchers provide policy makers with available and responsible information regarding the economic impacts of the IT industry and the national IT innovation. This paper attempts to update a recently published input-output (I-O) table to 2012 and 2020 I-O tables, and then employ I-O analysis to examine the economic impacts of IT industry. Demand-driven model, supply-driven model, and Leontief price model are employed to obtain the information on production-inducing effects and value added-inducing effects of the IT industry, supply shortage effect of the IT industry, and pervasive effects of price change in the IT industry, respectively. This study pays particular and close attention to the IT industry by taking the industry as exogenous and then investigating economic impacts of it. Moreover, the study analyzes the economic impacts of the national IT innovation in 2012 and 2020.
