Abstract

The newly-developed tilter method was used to measure the linear birefringence behaviour of (NH3C3H7)2-MnCl4 in the temperature range between 50 K and 300 K. The birefringence along the (010) direction was measured for the first time. We observed the δ-ε and ε-ξ phase transitions in birefringence behaviour. It is shown that the tilter method can measure the birefringence along the direction normal to the incident laser beam.
