Abstract

Based on our study with o-quinone generation and its adduct formation, a series of alkyl and arylcarbamate pro-drugs of vanillyl alcohol was designed, prepared and tested for their biochemical activity.
Compounds MPC-003, MPC-007 and MPC-011 inhibited melanin synthesis weakly in B16 cell. Aralkyl dicarbamate MPC-004 was active for the mushroom tyrosinase and failed to inhibit melanin synthesis in B16cell. The preparation of the other analogs based on current findings is ongoing. These carbamate pro-drugs of vanillyl alcohol may prove therapeutic as melanin synthesis inhibitors
