Abstract

A slotted tube is a device to reduce flow-induced noise. In order to understand the noise reduction mechanism of the tube. an experiment has been systematically performed. Noise measurements have been carried out for a variety of slot dimensions such as the length, the width, the thickness and the number of slots. In the case of a significantly long slot, a discrete tone is observed under comparatively lower pressure conditions. Three mechanisms of sound generation concerning the slotted tube have been clarified..
