Abstract
This article presents a method for designing a preview controller for active roll control (ARC) with V2V communication and continuous damping control (CDC). With V2V communication, a preceding vehicle's lateral acceleration is transmitted to a following one. Regarding the transmitted lateral acceleration as a previewed disturbance, an ARC previewer controller is designed on the following vehicle. Active anti-roll bar (AARB) and CDC are used as an actuator to generate a controlled roll moment and an LQ optimal preview control is adopted to design the preview controller. Simulations are performed on a vehicle simulation package, CarSim to check the effectiveness of the CDC for ARC. From the simulation, CDC is only effective for ARC with a linear quadratic regulator (LQR).
