RANS simulations of turbulent stably stratified layers based on GEMIX experiments using CUPID code

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The prediction capability of CUPID was assessed based on GEMIX experiments. For both the unstratifiedand stably stratified conditions considered, the CUPID code shows reasonably good agreement with experimental data for time-averaged axial velocity. However, higher turbulent kinetic energy for the confined wake configuration was not well predicted by CUPID with k RANS model, which becomes worse in the stably stratified conditions. With the tuning of the model constant C based on the experimental data, the prediction capability of CUPID is shown to improve the estimation of the turbulent kinetic energy in stably stratified conditions.
