Abstract

A size reduction technique for mobile broadcasting antennas is presented in this letter. The proposed technique is based on loading two inductive coil elements along the antenna length. By properly assigning the coil location and inductance, the current distribution over the antenna can be adapted to the optimum at the reduced length. Measurement results show that the miniaturized whip antenna with length of λ/16 provides similar reception sensitivity to a conventional whip antenna that is twice in length (λ/8).
