Abstract
This paper shows electromagnetic analysis on the design of a curved barrier to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) from a solid cable in nuclear power plants. We investigate the regulatory guidance applied to nuclear power plants to prevent electromagnetic (EM) problems, which are the malfunction and degradation of digital equipment. Based on the investigated regulatory guide, we electrostatically analyze the curved EM barrier using a mode-matching method in conjunction with the superposition principle. Using the series solution obtained by the mode-matching method, we derive the distribution of the electric-field strength and the capacitance per unit length while varying the geometric parameters of the curved EM barrier. The results in this paper provide us with useful information to reduce undesirable EMI from a solid cable.
