Symbol window detection for multipath propagation channels

Abstract

In this paper, a symbol window detection method with improved performance is proposed. The received signals with different propagation delay due to the multipath channel cause the ISI. This is a major source of the interferences for the detection of the beginning point of the symbol window. Although the payload part of the packet is encoded with the advanced channel coding and separated by guard interval, the preamble part has relatively weaker protection mechanism for this kind of interferences. The proposed symbol window detection shows the resistance to the peak position jitters caused by the multipath rich channel environments. Simulation results for various channel parameters confirm the superior performance especially for the propagation delay spread.
