Abstract

The delay in train operation is one of the main factors that reduce the efficiency and reliability of urban railway system. This study aims to propose front turning-back scenario and analyze the effect of train delay reduction. The front turning-back scenario is defined as turning a train in the reverse direction of the existing operation line in front of turning-back station. The simulation analysis is performed based on the network and operation data of Shinbundang line under various disturbance conditions. The results show that the front turning-back algorithm can be reduce the average delay time by about 18.3-38.4% compared to normal turning-back operation. Especially, the front turning-back algorithm is expected to contribute to a reduction of the operation delay in the high-density urban railway network.
