Abstract
For the purpose of digital recording of HDTV signals we have designed a bit rate reduction coder that can reduce the input data rate by a compression ratio greater than 2, while maintaining excellent picture quality for studio applications. In this paper we have developed an adaptive quantization algorithm to decide quantization step size that can optimize bit allocation in a cluster unit. We have also developed an advanced dynamic tracking (ADT) technology using two-layered data format for trick play.
