The boundary of interaction design has expanded from desktop environment, web-site, and mobile design to diverse objects in our everyday life. In order to provide UI patterns reflecting these changes and evolutions, collaborative and participatory UI pattern library needs to be developed. The goal of this research is to design a new UI pattern library based on the wiki platform, one of Web 2.0 systems. This library will be evolved constantly by diverse users’ participations. To achieve the goal, this research reviews the original concept of pattern, the application cases of the concept of pattern in interaction researches, the concept of Web 2.0 and the characteristics of the wiki platform. The strategies to design the new UI patterns library, named ixpatterns.com, were drawn based on the reviews. The UI pattern library proposed by this research has open structure that enables users of the library to easily update UI patterns. Also, the IA (Information Architecture) was developed by considering user groups’ needs. The ixpattern.com is expected to be a significant case in UI pattern libraries because of its application way of the concept of Web 2.0.
